Lewis Krakauer- He was the father of the author. He was a kind and generous man but he had set goals and expectations for his children. This caused a major conflict between Jon and his father. Jon eventually came to realize that his father only had good intentions. Later in life he developed post polio syndrome and tried to commit suicide in front of his son. Jon's conflict with his father greatly shaped who he became.
